The First Domestic hydrogen gas network in Scotland
In December 2024 the first Domestic gas network was completed by the SGN company in Levenmouth, Fife. The new 8.4 kilometre network is expected to be operational in early 2025. This will enable green hydrogen gas to begin flowing from a local 7MW(Megawatt) offshore wind turbine. People living in the Levenmouth area of Fife will then be offered the chance to join the domestic gas network. This will enable them to utilise energy free of carbon emissions though they will still be able to use boilers and radiators as before. This project, the first green hydrogen community in Scotland will then provide evidence of the viability of these low-carbon projects to the Scottish Government which is expected to make further announcements about them next year. Fife College is also joining with SGN to open a hydrogen training facility in 2026.
