The Use of the New Drone Technology in Scotland

                                New Drone Technology in Scotland

The development of the new drone technology in Scotland is moving forward apace with its increased application to new projects. It has been announced by the NHS that in a trial lab specimens have been successfully flown by drone from the Royal Infirmary/Edinburgh BioQuarter, part of NHS Lothian to the Melrose General Hospital part of NHS Borders, a distance of around 35 miles (50km). Known as Project Caelus it is a joint project between NHS Scotland and AGS Airports and is designed to significantly cut transport times for urgently required clinical specimens from most of a day to around 30 minutes. This makes it possible to undertake much speedier diagnosis and treatment of patients. With this new project it will be possible to transport medical supplies, blood samples and other items between the different NHS Boards in Scotland more easily and at a much greater pace. It is hoped that the rapid development of drone technology will further facilitate the move away from ferry and air transport.

Other Uses of drone Technology in Scotland

The new drone technology is also being used in other areas of Scotland including Royal Mail post deliveries to the islands of Islay and Jura in the Inner Hebrides. The drone mail deliveries replace the traditional mail vans using ferries and can carry payloads of up to 6 kilograms.
