A Famous Poet
William Dunbar (1459-1530) was a Scottish poet who produced his poetry in the late fifteenth century and in to the early sixteenth century. He was a major cultural figure at the court of King James IV (1488- 1513) . Where he was employed and was active from 1500 onwards.
Dunbar’s Poetry
Dunbar wrote a large amount of highly regarded poetry. This poetry was written in a variety of styles and used different themes. Dunbar also worked in different literary styles. He is believed to have come from East Lothian. He was active at the court of King James IV. And is known to have taken part in several Scottish embassies to Denmark, France and England. His trip to London as part of a Scottish embassy resulted in his famous poem about that city.
