Sir Walter Scott 1771- 1832 was a hugely successful Scottish author who achieved immense fame in his lifetime . He was primarily known as an historical novelist though he was also a successful poet. Scott also had a long successful career in the legal profession in Scotland.

His most famous novels such as Waverly, Rob Roy and Ivanhoe are still regarded as classics by critics. Sir Walter Scott is also regarded by many experts as the inventor of the historical novel. As well as being a leading figure in the European Romantic movement.
